The Huntland Middle School Hornets beat the Unity Lions 48-26 on the road Tuesday for their third win of the season.

The Hornets jumped out to a big lead in the first half and maintained a steady advantage the rest of the way to move their record for the season above .500.

Huntland Middle head football coach Mike Jernigan said that the win was a good team effort and he was proud of his players for their overall performance.

The Hornets scored most of their points in the first half as they scored four total touchdowns in the first two quarters.

They led 32-6 at halftime.

The Lions made up some ground in the second half as the Hornets began to rotate younger players into the contest, but Huntland still had enough of an edge to win by 22 points.

Bryant Mooney carried the ball 17 times for 302 yards and caught a pass for 40 yards. Mooney also had four rushing touchdowns, a receiving touchdown and six two-point conversion in the victory.

Adon Bass had 30 rushing yards on six carries, completed a pass for 40 yards and threw the passing touchdown to Mooney.

Davis Keith and Brodie Bradshaw connected for a 31-yard touchdown pass in the game, and Coby Martin carried the ball twice for 14 yards.

With the win, the Hornets improved to 3-2 on the season.
