The large fire at Palatec Manufacturing has been contained, according to officials, who said they are still working hot spots and a fire in the Palatec office building.
First responders from across Lincoln County and Fayetteville answered the call early Thursday morning when a fire broke out at Palatec Manufacturing — a pallet-making business — on Huntsville Highway in Park City.
According to initial reports, there was a vehicle wreck involving an electric pole near the manufacturing facility causing the pole to catch fire. Lincoln County Emergency Management Agency Director and Fire Chief Doug Campbell said he received a call about the wreck between 2:30 a.m. and 3 a.m.
The fire spread to 1,000-pound propane tanks in the area, according to reports. Officials said when a propane tank blew, it traveled approximately 250 feet in the air and all the windows in a nearby home were blown out.
The fire then spread to the Palatec and a reported thousands of pallets caught fire, officials said.
No fatalities have been reported, according to officials, who said there were injuries involved in the wreck.
Power outages were reported in the area and some homes were evacuated.
Mutual aid was called in from several surrounding agencies and departments outside of Lincoln County, according to Campbell.
