The Franklin County Rebelettes lost to the Tullahoma Lady Wildcats in four sets on the road Thursday for their 19th loss of the season.
The Rebelettes dropped the first two sets for the day with a close win in the third set slightly extending the match before the Lady Wildcats took the fourth set to seal the loss.
Franklin County head volleyball coach Herb Horton said his team rebounded well from a slow start in a competitive matchup.
“I was very pleased with how we competed. We didn’t play as well in the first set, but in the second set, we competed,” he said. “That third set might have been our best set of the year. I thought we played really well against quality competition.”
The teams were never separated by more than five points in the opening set with the Lady Wildcats taking a 25-21 victory in the frame to put the Rebelettes behind early.
The Lady Wildcats ended the second set on a 17-5 run and recorded a decisive 25-12 win in the frame to take a 2-0 lead on the overall scoreboard.
The Rebelettes scored eight straight points midway through the third set to take an 18-12 lead with strong serves from Jessie Schnarr and several kills by Madisan Redmon fueling the run.
The Lady Wildcats would tie the score at 23-23 later in the set, but the Rebelettes scored the next two points for a 25-23 win to keep the match alive. The victory in the frame also snapped a 10-set losing streak for the Rebelettes that had run across their last four matches.
The Rebelettes jumped out to a 9-2 lead to start the fourth set, but the Lady Wildcats went on a 10-3 run to tie the score at 12-12.
The teams traded the lead back and forth a few times before the Lady Wildcats scored the last three points to claim a 25-21 victory in the set as the match came to an end.
With the loss, the Rebelettes moved to 5-19 on the season and 3-11 in district play.
They will next play Tuesday at Lincoln County High School in a quarterfinal game for the District 9AAA tournament. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
