ROBERT SPENCER III
SPENCER, Robert Lee “Bobby” III, age 75, of Winchester, passed away on Monday, Sept. 18, 2023, while surrounded by his loving family at Saint Thomas West in Nashville. A native of Franklin County, Mr. Spencer was born in Winchester, Tennessee, on Aug. 27, 1948, to the late Robert Lee Spencer, Jr. and Betty June (Smith) Spencer. He was the oldest of four brothers and was a longtime member of Winchester Cumberland Presbyterian Church. After graduating from Franklin County High in 1966, he served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. After returning from the war, he met and married his wife of over 48 years, Karen Crabtree Spencer, on May 9, 1975, and went on to receive his associate’s degree from Motlow State Community College. Bobby retired from the State of Tennessee Comptroller’s Office with the Division of Property Assessments after 35 years of dedicated service. His passion for his profession continued after retirement in his private appraisal business that kept him active until he fell ill this past summer. He loved sports. You could always find Bobby attending a Franklin County High School baseball, football or basketball game throughout the year. He was a Big Orange fan and always enjoyed watching the Tennessee Vols and Lady Vols. He was a lifetime member of the International Association of Assessing Officers and its affiliate chapter in Tennessee, VFW, American Legion Post 44, and most importantly, a proud veteran. Bobby was a man of honor and had a deep love for his family and friends, especially his two granddaughters. He loved being their “Poppy” as they were two of the brightest lights in his life. His yorkies, Cooper Jack and Emmy Belle, also held a special place in his heart. He was a loving, caring and devoted husband, father, brother and grandfather. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Benny Allen Spencer. Survivors include his wife, Karen (Crabtree) Spencer; son, Lee (Leah) Spencer of Nolensville, Tennessee; daughter, Lindsey Spencer (Macy) Brower of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; granddaughters, Allie Collins Brower and Lillie McCall Brower of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; brothers, Bruce (Joy) Spencer, Sr. of Winchester, Tennessee, and Brent (Angie) Spencer of Decherd, Tennessee; nephews, Bruce (Alicia) Spencer, Jr. and Blake (Abby) Spencer of Chattanooga, Tennessee; niece, Casey (Ben) Merrill of Cowan, Tennessee; brother-in-law, Donald (Cherie) Crabtree of Roswell, Georgia; and a host of cousins and extended family. Visitation was held on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023, from 1-3 p.m. with funeral services following at 3 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with Dr. Rev. Michael Clark officiating. Interment followed at Franklin Memorial Gardens with military honors bestowed. JOANN SNELL
SNELL, Martha Joann Burton, age 76, has passed into the loving arms of our Saviour Jesus Christ on Monday, Sept. 18, 2023, at Signal Mountain Senior Living, where she had been living since January 2020, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Joann was born on March 19, 1947, in Franklin County, Tennessee, to Ernest Harold Burton and Ena Estelle Burton. She enjoyed living on the farm and helping with the chores that came with it. She met her husband, James (Jimmy) William Snell and married in 1964 on her 17th birthday. They were married for 41 years (up until Jimmy’s death in April 2004). Joann worked at First National Bank of Tullahoma, beginning as a teller in 1967 until retiring as assistant vice president in 2008. The bank was part of her family. They enjoyed celebrating births of children, marriages, birthdays of employees and many holidays. Anyone who knew Joann (JoJo) knew she was a servant at heart; a heart that was filled with love for her family, especially her grandsons, Kristopher and Kacey and nieces, Callie and Cheyenne Davis. She was a strong, independent women who was loyal and protective. She loved the Lord and His love shown through her. JoJo is survived by her daughter, Kristy (Bill) Bowman; son, Kenneth Snell; sister, Tina (Tommy) Henley; grandsons, Kristopher Bowman, Kacey Bowman and Brent (Amanda) Bowman; granddaughter, Bethany (Robert) Rittenberry; niece, Callie (Michael) Davis; great-niece, Cheyenne Davis; great-nephew, Lane Davis; and great-granddaughters, Layla Bowman, June Bowman, Evelyn Rittenberry and Katherine Rittenberry. The family will receive friends on Sept. 28, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Tullahoma Funeral Home, located at 401 Westside Dr., Tullahoma, followed by a celebration of life at 1 p.m. A graveside service will follow at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Estill Springs, Tennessee. Memorial contributions may be made to Wayside Presbyterian Church Building Fund, Experience Community Church of Tullahoma or Hospice of Chattanooga. The family would like to express thanks for the years of loving care Callie Davis gave JoJo while she was still at home and thank Signal Mountain Senior Living and Hospice of Chattanooga. The staff and nurses loved her and she loved them.
MARION LUTTRELL
LUTTRELL, MARION “DUDE,” age 82, of Winchester, Tennessee, formerly of Bowling Green, Kentucky, departed this life on Friday, Sept. 22, 2023, at Elk River Health and Rehabilitation of Winchester, following a brief illness. Mr. Luttrell was born in Huntland, Tennessee, to the late Hubert Elmer Luttrell and Bessie Bailey Luttrell. Mr. Luttrell was of the Baptist faith but most importantly he was a Christian. Mr. Luttrell left Franklin County and relocated to Chicago at a young age for work. He was hired at General Motors at their Willow Springs Plant where he worked for approximately 30 years. He then transferred to the Corvette Plan in Bowling Green, Kentucky and worked for 15 years there and retired. He loved going to the horse races, fishing and he was an avid Dallas Cowboys and Tennessee Titans football fan. He was never the type to sit still; he always had to be, “on the go.” In the past few years he was walking five miles a day. He will be remembered as a quiet man who was easygoing and always appreciative of everything anyone would do for him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, William Roy Luttrell and George “Johnny” Luttrell. He is survived by his sisters, Marie Brannon of Bentonville, Arkansas, Nina Millrany and husband, Donald of Winchester Springs, Jessie Smith and husband, William and Opal Hickman, all of Winchester; one brother, Leon Luttrell and wife, Shelley of Manchester; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation was held on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2023, from noon to 2 p.m. followed by services with Eulogist George Luttrell, Jr. officiating in the chapel of Grant Funeral Services. Interment followed in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Huntland.
ROSE CORNELIUS
CORNELIUS, Rose Marie Daniel, age 72, of Winchester, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023, at Elk River Health and Rehab in Winchester. Rose was born on July 11, 1951, in Winchester to the late John and Earlene (Farris) Daniel. She was a graduate of Franklin County High School and had been a self-employed painter. In her younger years, Rose enjoyed gardening, fishing and reading, but currently time was spent sitting on the porch watching birds, spending time with her family and friends and watching Gunsmoke. She was baptized and attended Cowan First Baptist Church when she could. Rose will be remembered with her great sense of humor, never meeting a stranger and would help anyone in need. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Randall Lee Cornelius and siblings, John William (Mary) Daniel, Edith (Pete) Marinucci, Betty (Ralph) Edwards, Judy James, Joe Daniel and Ricky Daniel. Rose is survived by her sons, Robin (Stephanie) Cornelius of Wartrace and Scott Cornelius of Winchester; granddaughter, Alex (Preston White) Cornelius of Nashville; grandsons, Trenton (Olivia Epley) Cornelius of Tullahoma, and Colby Jessie Tyler Cornelius of Decherd; siblings, Barbara (Larry) Mullican of Hillsboro, Jerry (Carolyn) Daniel of Winchester, Ron (Gayle) Daniel of Winchester, Don (Vickie) Daniel of Winchester, and Debbie (Ricky) Elliott of Winchester; sisters–in–law, Susan Daniel of Arcadia, Florida, and Lydia Curtis Johnson of Winchester; and several nieces and nephews. MADDEN, Edith Sester, age 88, of Winchester, Tennessee, formerly of Manchester, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2023, at her residence. Edith was born on Sept. 18, 1935, in Manchester, Kentucky, to the late Jairus “Jay” and Martha (Allen) Ball. She retired as a supervisor for Papst bedding company. Edith enjoyed reading Christian books, working puzzles, playing practical jokes, watching and listening to all things Elvis, but most of all spending quality time with her family. Edith attended Little Hurricane Baptist Church when she was able. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Farmer Sester and Denver Madden; great-grandchild, Hannah Gray; and siblings, Junior Ball, Elizabeth Napier and Wayne Ball. Edith is survived by her children, Lonnie (Ann) Sester and Joan (Ralph) Burlew; grandchildren, Jared Gray, Adam Gray, Stephanie Gray and Timothy (Carmen) Gray; and great-grandchildren, Alyson Gray, Logan Gray and Riddick Wright. PEGGY PARTIN
PARTIN, Peggy Joyce Gipson, age 85, of Decherd, passed away peacefully at her residence on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2023. Peggy was born on May 26, 1938, in Decherd, Tennessee, to the late Bill (Annie) Stephens and Jo (Odell) Smith. She retired from Walmart after many years of service and was a dedicated homemaker. In her younger years she enjoyed sewing her daughters’ dresses, reading, fishing and watching the Atlanta Braves, Hallmark or the Game Show Network. Most of all, she cherished the time spent with her family and friends. Peggy was a member of the White Oak Grove Church of God. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, J.C. Gipson and Lyman Partin and sister, Bonnie Morris. Peggy is survived by her daughters, Lola Walls, Belinda Gipson, Kathy (Steve) Walls and Jeanne (Jackie) Branch; step-daughter, Brenda Lee; grandchildren, Paula (Frank) Sabo, Laura (Billy) Isbell, Lisa (Greg) Madsen, Jamie (Tammy) Walls, Stephanie (Bryan) Chapin, Michele (Michael) Stephens, Dustin (LeAnn) Henley, Devon (Sherrie) Henley and Derrick (Hannah) Everett; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Jody Radley, Sammy (Shirley) Stephens and Richard (Wanda) Stephens; and several nieces, nephews and friends. RONALD SCOTT
SCOTT, Ronald Wayne, age 71, of Winchester, passed away on Monday, Sept. 18, 2023, at his residence while surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Harvey, Illinois, on Oct. 23, 1951, to the late Paul Vernon and Jonnie Faye (Williams) Scott. Ronald retired after 20 years of service in the United States Navy. Following retirement, he obtained his bachelor’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University. He loved traveling to New York City to watch Broadway plays prior to moving there. After moving to New York City, he earned a duel Master’s Degree in General Education and Special Education from Touro University and became an accomplished special education teacher. Musically inclined, he was talented at playing all string instruments and enjoyed playing bluegrass, blues and folk music. Ronald will be remembered for his witty sense of humor and sharp intellect. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Greg Scott. Ronald is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Rebecca Scott; son, Patrick Scott; daughter, Rachael Scott; step-children, Joey (Crystal) Goodman, Jennifer Lynn (Paul) Alley and Jaysa Lee (James) Hill; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including the youngest grandson, Ethan Alley aka Jack; brothers, Glen (Sheila) Scott and Tommy (Donna) Scott; nieces, Jennifer Scott and Lanna McGowan; and nephew, Donald Scott.
