HILL, Nola Elizabeth, age 89, of Winchester, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2023, at her residence while surrounded by her loving family. A native of Franklin County, she was born in Winchester on Dec. 4, 1933, to the late Calvin and Mae (Elliott) Walls. Before her retirement, she was employed as a sales clerk at Hammer’s Department Store. In her spare time, she enjoyed flower gardening and quilting. Nola was a devoted member of Decherd Church of God for 60 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.T. Hill; daughter, Gloria Hill; and siblings, Judy Walls, Evelyn Gipson, Jewel Gillespie, Marguerite Powers, Charles Walls, George Walls, Jack Walls and John Walls. Nola is survived by her loving daughter, Brenda (Don) Minor of Winchester; grandchildren, Jonathan (Felicia) Baker of Winchester, Trey (Kelli) Minor of Flintville, and Tiffany (Jordon) Watson of Estill Springs; great-grandchildren, Raeven Baker, Kaelyn (Alex) Boesch, Emma (Shyne) Minor, Taylor Blair, Madelyn Watson and Kami Farris; great-great-grandchildren, Mason Baker, Paislee Baker and Raegen Baker; step-mother, Julie Walls; and brother, Dale Walls of Decherd. PAUL YODER
YODER, Paul D., age 74, of Belvidere, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at the home of his son, where he was being cared for, on Friday, Sept. 22, 2023, following an extended illness. Paul was born on Sept. 5, 1949, to Alvin N. Yoder and Ida (Byler) Yoder in Stuarts Draft, Virginia. He married his sweetheart, Mary Beiler, on April 3, 1970. In 1987 Paul and Mary, along with their seven children, moved from Stuarts Draft, Virginia to Belvidere, Tennessee, which was still his home. Paul was a loving and caring husband and father. Buncombe Mountain was his favorite place to be. He found fulfillment in helping others. Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Beiler) Yoder; parents, Alvin N. Yoder and Ida (Byler) Yoder; brothers, Simon A. Yoder, Elmer A. Yoder and Norman A. Yoder; sisters, Mary Jane (Yoder) Mast, Ruth (Yoder) Helmuth and Esther (Yoder) Troyer; grandson, Julian Andrew Yoder; and granddaughter, Heidi Elaine Yoder. Paul is survived by his brother, Earl A. Yoder of Whiteville, Tennessee; sister, Martha Yoder of Costa Rica; daughter, Ida Mae Beachy and four children, two grandchildren of Belvidere, Tennessee; son, John Dale (Karen) Yoder and 11 children of Smithville, Tennessee; son Victor Paul (Marlene) Yoder and seven children of Bee Springs, Kentucky; son, Roman Earl (Brenda) Yoder and eight children of Clarkson, Kentucky; daughter, Mary Ann (Joshua) Yoder and eight children of Owenton, Kentucky; daughter, Teresa June (Jesse) Yoder and eight children of Owenton, Kentucky; and daughter, Eunice Elaine (Marcus) Diller and three children of Sparta, Tennessee. Visitation was held on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2023, from 3-7 p.m. at the Cedar Springs Mennonite Church in Kentucky. Visitation was also held on Monday, Sept. 25, 2023, from 2-4 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m. at Belvidere Mennonite Church. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2023, at 10 a.m. at the Belvidere Mennonite Church with burial following in the Belvidere Mennonite Church Cemetery. SNIDER, Robert Douglas “Doug,” age 48, of Winchester, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2023, at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga. He was born in McKenzie, Tennessee, on June 19, 1975. Doug was currently employed as an industrial welder. He enjoyed riding his customized Harley Davidson motorcycle, and RZR in the mountains. But most of all, Doug loved spending time with his friends and family. He was preceded in death by his father, Alan Snider and grandparents, Bill and Rubye Snider and Robert and Joyce Davidson. Doug is survived by his wife, Bailey Ann Burns Snider of Winchester; children, Cain Snider of White House, Kelsy Snider of Paris, Kinsley Nichols of Jackson, Hailey Snider of Marysville, Ohio, Addison Snider of Marysville, Ohio, Ryder Burns of Winchester, and River Snider of Winchester; mother, Sandra (Michael) Sims of McKenzie; father, Darrell Hayes of Greenfield; sister, Serena Tucker of Gleason; and precious granddaughter, McKenna Snider. RUTH SAYLOR
SAYLOR, Ruth Jackson, age 94, of Rancho Mirage, California, formerly of Franklin County, Tennessee, departed this life on Friday, Sept. 22, 2023, at Bayshire Nursing Home in Rancho Mirage, California. Ms. Saylor was born on Sept. 27, 1928, in Hammond, Indiana, to the late General Jackson and Sarah Elizabeth Gass Jackson. She was a member of the Estill Springs First Baptist Church for many years before becoming unable to attend due to health reasons. She always enjoyed watching televangelist when unable to attend her own church services. Ms. Saylor worked many years at various jobs when she was able to. She and Mr. Saylor raised five children. She always enjoyed working in her flowers and going “antiquing” and visiting with her friends and neighbors. She was also able to take care of her invalid mother for several years before she passed away. She always tried to go to the senior citizens in Estill Springs or Winchester to eat and socialize with her friends. She will be missed by her family and friends who remember her as she was when she was still in Tennessee. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elijah Saylors; daughter, Paulette Saylor Essex; son, Jeffrey Saylor; and grandchild, Shane Mathews. She is survived by her daughters, Judith Allen of Estill Springs, Elizabeth Sheridan and husband Severne Johnson of Sequim, Washington, and Pamela Mathews of Palm Springs, California; grandchildren, Terri Elkins of North Carolina, Art Keliner of Estill Springs, Tennessee, Tim Essex of Florida, Jared Saylor of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Megan Saylor of Ft. Colorado, Calorado; and several great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Oct. 5, 2023, from 1-2 p.m. followed by the service at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Grant Funeral Services with Pastor David Cunningham officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Garner Cemetery in Decherd, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband, Elijah.
RICHARD MILLER SR.
MILLER, Richard F., Sr., age 81, of Estill Springs, Tennessee, received his wings, on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023, at Vanderbilt Tullahoma-Harton Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Miller was born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, on Feb. 6, 1942, to the late Henry Harrison Miller and Estella Ruth Gardner Miller. Mr. Miller was a truck driver and employed for approximately 10 years for Abbotts Egg Farms before becoming disabled. Mr. Miller was of the Baptist faith and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was an avid ham radio operator and he loved riding motorcycles before he was disabled. Mr. Miller loved spending time with his family and spoiling his grandchildren. He will be remembered for his good sense of humor and was always stern with his children and grandchildren only because he loved them dearly. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Phillip Miller; great-grandson, Toby Russell; and several brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, one day short of being 55, Pat Miller of Estill Springs; daughters, Sherri Miller of Tullahoma, Ronda Russell and husband, Scott and Ruth Hunt, all of Estill Springs; grandchildren, Zack Miller of Savannah, Tennessee, Phillip Russell, Patrick Russell and Richard Russell, all of Estill Springs, Tennessee, McKenzie Hunt of Manchester, Brittany Hunt of Estill Springs, Katlynn Hunt of Winchester, and Dillan Miller-Norman of Tullahoma; seven great-grandchildren; and a few nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation was held on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2023, from 1-3 p.m. followed by services at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Grant Funeral Services with Bro. Larry Quattlebaum, officiating. Interment followed in the Estill Springs Cemetery with military honors bestowed.
BARBARA GRANT
GRANT, Barbara Ann, age 82, of Winchester, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2023, at Augusta University Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia. She was born in Alabama on Nov. 6, 1940, to the late Roy and Callie Geneva (Robertson) Roberson. Barbara was a devoted member of Winchester Cumberland Presbyterian Church and was a participant of the Joy Club. Before her retirement, she was employed as an administrative secretary at AEDC. She was a part of the Franklin County Election Committee where she counted the absentees. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, playing bridge, collecting Hallmark ornaments, working crossword puzzles in the Herald Chronicle and volunteering with the Good Samaritan. She enjoyed spending her Thursday lunch hour with the November birthday girls, Callie Hood, Betty Pinell, Barbara Stewart and Charlotte Hall, and watching Saturday University of Tennessee football. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Milton Grant and son, Kevin Milton Grant. Barbara is survived by her beloved four-legged best friend, Magnolia Blossom; life-long friend and cousin, Callie (Johnny) Hood of Winchester; cousins, Richard (Brenda) McFarlane of Murfreesboro, Sharon (Mark) Swafford of Winchester, Robin (Sharon) Hood of Winchester, Mitchell (Glenys) Robertson of Athens, Alabama, Phillip (Shirley) Robertson of Huntland, Bobby (Kaye) Keith of Winchester, Pat (David) Prince of Alabama, Laurie Prince (Robert) Mills of New Market, Alabama, and Cynthia Prince Pack of Hazel Green, Alabama; aunt, Bessie Robertson Hall of Huntland; sister-in-law, Karen Bain of Bardstown, Kentucky; niece, Sarah Bain of Kentucky; nephews, Stephen Bain and Stuart Bain, both of Kentucky; and many friends. JAMES ARNOLD
ARNOLD, James “Craig,” age 56, of Estill Springs, passed away on Friday, Sept. 29, 2023, at Vanderbilt-Tullahoma-Harton Hospital, after battling cancer. A native of Franklin County, he was born in Manchester on Nov. 28, 1966, to James Alfred Arnold and Judy Jones. A beloved father, papa, son and friend, Craig will be dearly missed by all those who loved him. Craig was also known as “Papa Craig” and “Meathead.” He was currently employed as a truck driver hauling brick and powder by Alley-Cassetty Truck Center, where he had worked for many years. In his spare time, Craig enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, riding his RZR in the mountains with his lifelong friends, watching Alabama football every Saturday, going to the races with his son, Drew, and watching his grandsons at their baseball and basketball games. He loved his family and his friends, but most of all he adored his grandchildren. Craig was a member of the Brothers of the Wheel and enjoyed his time doing charity work with his fellow brothers. He was preceded in death by his father, James A. Arnold; grandmother, Nannie B. Rogers; brother, Jeff Jones; uncle, Carl “C.T.” Rogers and aunt and uncle, Patsy and Ronnie Trussell. Craig is survived by his son, Drew (Tiffany) Arnold of Decherd; grandsons, Brayden Arnold of Winchester, Easton Arnold of Estill Springs, and Kaden Arnold of Decherd; granddaughter, Millie Arnold of Decherd; mother, Judy (Bryant) Jones of Tullahoma; brothers, Jerry Jones of Chattanooga, Bryant (Gigi) Jones of Jasper, Josh (Betty) Jones of Tullahoma, and Tommy Arnold of Tullahoma; lifelong special friends, Greg (Jeanette) Williams of Estill Springs, Alan (Annie) Vickers of Manchester; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. NATHAN KREIDENWEIS
KREIDENWEIS, Nathan Norris, age 23, of Winchester, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023. He was born in Nashville on Dec. 16, 1999, to Matt and Pam Kreidenweis. A 2018 graduate of Franklin County High School, Nathan then went on to earn a degree in industrial maintenance from Tennessee College of Applied Technology in Shelbyville. He currently was self-employed as a car detailer and had earned many loyal customers with his car detailing skills. An avid outdoorsman, Nathan enjoyed fishing and hunting as well as shooting and snow-skiing. He had a kind soul and would go out of his way to fix things or help others in need. He loved the Lord and cherished the time spent with his church youth on mission trips. Nathan was currently attending First United Methodist Church of Winchester. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, H.B. Norris and Paul George and Mary Lou Kreidenweis and uncle, Mark Kreidenweis. In addition to his loving parents, Nathan is survived by his brothers, Kyle Kreidenweis and Matthew Kreidenweis of Winchester; grandmother, Mary Sue Norris of Winchester; aunts and uncles, Susie (Trent) Loman, Ronnie (April) Norris, Diane (Bill) Albright, Jeff (Beth) Kreidenweis, Paula (David) Barrial and Tony (Peggy) Kreidenweis; many first cousins; and extended family and friends. JAMES JACKSON
JACKSON, James Dean, age 61, of Winchester, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2023, at his residence while surrounded by his loving family. A native of Franklin County, he was born on June 22, 1962, in Winchester. Dean had previously been employed as a medical technologist at Southern Middle Tennessee Medical Center, from where he retired. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, photography and watching NASCAR (cheering for Chase Elliott and Bill Elliott). He also loved to travel, especially to Disney and the Great Smoky Mountains. He also loved to sit and watch television with his little family. He was preceded in death by his father, James Edward “Buddy” Jackson. Dean is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Lyn McCormick Jackson of Winchester; mother, Jo Ann Martin Jackson of Decherd; sister, Deanna (Dan) Sidley of Winchester; fur daughter, Tinkerbelle; nieces and nephews, Keith (Kelly) Payne, Kassie (Ryan) Holley, Chris McCormick and Allison McCormick (Mitch); and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
