Trojans fall to Highland Rim in home opener

The South Middle School Trojans lost to the Highland Rim Hornets 55-47 at home Monday in their first game of the season.
The Trojans rallied from an early double-digit deficit to tie the score at halftime, but the Hornets pulled right back ahead in the second half to give South a loss.
The Trojans had their lowest-scoring period to start the game as the Hornets built up a sizable early lead.
South trailed 16-6 after one quarter.
However, the Trojans found their offensive rhythm in the second quarter and were able to tie the score up going into the halftime break.
The score was tied at 23-23 at the end of the first half.
The score remained relatively close in the third quarter, but the Hornets were able to take a multiple-possession before the period ended.
The Trojans trailed 40-35 after three quarters.
The Trojans lost a little more ground in the fourth quarter as they ultimately took a loss by eight points. Kaveon Sutton scored eight of South’s 12 points in the fourth quarter.
Sutton and Cameron Denton led the Trojans with 12 points each for the game, followed by Brennan Taylor with 10 points and William Money with eight.
Odeviyon Poe scored four points and Eli Ragland scored one.
With the loss, the Trojans started the season with a record of 0-1.
They will next play Thursday at home against North Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
