Middle school Lady Hornets pick up home win versus WCA

The Huntland Middle School Lady Hornets beat the Winchester Christian Academy Lady Lions 39-30 at home Tuesday for their second win of the season.

The Lady Lions held a slight lead going into halftime, but the Lady Hornets flipped the scoreboard in the third quarter and never looked back to bring their record for the season back above .500.

The Lady Hornets scored the first five points of the contest and maintained a steady lead throughout the rest of the first quarter.

They led 11-5 after one quarter.

The Lady Lions ended the first half with 12 straight points to take the lead late in the second quarter as they went into halftime with a 20-15 advantage.

However, the Lady Hornets bounced back by scoring the first eight points of the third quarter to pull back ahead. Abbey Mason scored eight of Huntland’s 14 points in the third quarter.

They led 29-22 going into the final period.

The Lady Hornets grew their lead further in the fourth quarter and held a double-digit advantage for most of the period before settling for a nine-point win. Catara Johnson scored seven of Huntland’s 10 points in the fourth quarter.

Abbey Mason and Catara Johnson led the Lady Hornets with 15 points each for the game, followed by Loralie Mason with five points and Millie Walker with four.

The Lady Lions were led in scoring by Audrey Glenn with eight points, followed by Julianna Shetters and Chloe Cunningham with seven points each.

Sophia Green scored four points, Elise Horton scored three and Mary Elizabeth Orr scored one.

With the win, the Lady Hornets improved to 2-1 on the season.

They will next play Monday at Flintville Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
