Middle school Hornets drop home game to Community

The Huntland Middle School Hornets lost to the Community Vikings 58-28 at home Tuesday for their fifth loss of the season.
The Hornets fell behind by double digits early in the contest with the Vikings fully pulling away in the second half to move Huntland’s record below .500 for the first time this season.
Adon Bass hit a shot to give the Hornets their only points of the opening period as the Vikings established a sizable early lead.
Huntland trailed 15-2 after one quarter.
The Hornets got their offense back on track in the second quarter with the deficit remaining steady through the end of the half. Bryant Mooney scored six of Huntland’s 11 points in the second quarter.
They trailed 26-13 at halftime.
The Vikings added a few more points onto their advantage in the third quarter as the Hornets trailed 40-22 going into the final period. Mooney scored seven of Huntland’s nine points in the third quarter.
The Vikings closed out the game with their best offensive period to put the game well out of reach as the Hornets lost by 30.
Mooney led the Hornets with 14 points for the game, followed by Bass with seven points and Micah Tipps with four.
Evan Goode scored three points.
With the loss, the Hornets moved to 4-5 on the season.
They will next play Tuesday at South Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
