Rebelettes withstand late rally to top Scottsboro

The Franklin County Rebelettes beat the Scottsboro Lady Wildcats 50-47 at home Saturday for their second win of the season.
The Rebelettes carried a double-digit lead into the fourth quarter and held off an attempted rally in the final minutes from the Lady Wildcats to claim their second victory in as many days.
The Wildcats got off to a strong start in the contest on offense as they were able to put the Rebelettes in a decent early hole. Hannah Campbell scored five of Franklin County’s eight points in the first quarter.
Franklin County trailed 14-8 after one quarter.
The Rebelettes steadily chipped away at the deficit throughout the second quarter as they went into halftime trailing by a narrow margin of 23-21.
The Rebelettes followed up by scoring the first nine points of the third quarter to flip the scoreboard entirely in their favor for the rest of the period.
A shot by Campbell in the closing seconds of the third quarter gave Franklin County a 43-33 advantage going into the final period.
The Lady Wildcats started the fourth quarter with an 11-1 run as they tied the score at 44-44 with 4:39 remaining.
With the score still tied at 47-47 a few minutes later, Gracen Baggett hit a free throw to give the Rebelettes the lead, and Baggett hit a layup on the next Franklin County possession as well to make it a 50-47 game with about two minutes to go.
The Rebelettes missed eight consecutive free throws in the final two minutes to leave their lead at three points, but the Lady Wildcats weren’t able to get any shots to fall on the other end of the court during the same stretch of time.
A full-court heave at the buzzer would miss the mark for Scottsboro as the Rebelettes held on to win by three. Baggett scored six of Franklin County’s seven points in the fourth quarter.
Baggett led the Rebelettes with 15 points for the game, followed by Campbell with 12 points and Malloree May with seven.
Danica Stovall and Kenzie Arnold scored six points each, and Aahna Carter scored four points.
With the win, the Rebelettes improved to 2-0 on the season.
They will next play Monday at home against Grundy County High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
