Hornets rout hosting Cornersville in Thanksgiving tourney

The Huntland High School Hornets beat the Cornersville Bulldogs 75-56 on the road Tuesday in a consolation semifinal game for the Cornersville Thanksgiving Classic.
The Hornets took a double-digit lead late in the second quarter and held onto it for the rest of the game as the blowout victory allowed them to advance to the consolation finals.
The Hornets scored the last 10 points of the opening period to stake themselves to an early advantage in the contest. Trace Kilpatrick hit a trio of 3-pointers in the first quarter to help Huntland’s scoring effort.
They led 16-11 after one quarter.
The Hornets maintained a small lead in the second quarter before closing out the half on a 12-1 run to put themselves up by double digits.
They led 36-23 at halftime.
The Hornets carried their momentum into the third quarter as an 11-2 run to start the period pushed their advantage up to more than 20 points.
They led 60-39 going into the final period.
The Hornets rotated their starters out of the game for a majority of the fourth quarter as they easily finished off the 19-point victory.
Kilpatrick led the Hornets with 20 points for the game, followed by Grant Jernigan with 12 points and Lashawn Kimmons with 11.
Demetri Reed scored 10 points, Caydon Bradford scored nine, Landon Farmer scored seven, and Kannon Lafevers, Ellis Stewart and Chandler Banks scored two points each.
With the win, the Hornets improved to 2-3 on the season.
They will next play Wednesday against Culleoka High School at Cornersville in the consolation finals of the Cornersville Thanksgiving Classic. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
