The Huntland High School Lady Hornets lost to the Summertown Lady Eagles 50-23 at Cornersville Tuesday in a semifinal game for the Cornersville Thanksgiving Classic.

The Lady Hornets were outscored in each quarter as the Lady Eagles pulled ahead by double digits late in the first half and continued to outpace them the rest of the way.

After the Lady Hornets jumped out to a 4-1 lead to start the day, the Lady Eagles responded with a 12-5 run to establish early control of the scoreboard.

Huntland trailed 13-9 after one quarter.

The Lady Eagles scored the last 10 points of the first half to create the first substantial amount of separation between the two teams.

Huntland trailed 28-13 at halftime.

The Lady Hornets were able to slow down the Lady Eagles’ offense a little bit in the third quarter, but they continued to lose ground overall. Yareli Avalos scored four of Huntland’s six points in the third quarter.

They trailed 36-19 going into the final period.

A run of 11 straight points by the Lady Eagles to start the fourth quarter effectively put the game out of reach as the Lady Hornets lost by 27.

Avalos led the Lady Hornets with eight points for the game, followed by Aysia Williams with five points and Maddie Burks with four.

Lynsey Jakubowski, Stratton Davis and Bailey Morris scored two points each.

With the loss, the Lady Hornets moved to 1-4 on the season.

They will next play Wednesday at Cornersville High School in the third-place game for the Cornersville Thanksgiving Classic. Tip-off is scheduled for noon.
