Rebelettes drop district contest at Marshall County

The Franklin County Rebelettes lost to the Marshall County Tigerettes 11-3 on the road Tuesday for their 10th loss of the season.
The Tigerettes scored most of their runs for the day in the first two innings of the district contest as the Rebelettes weren’t able to overcome a sizable early deficit.
Franklin County head softball coach Kelly Kennedy said that multiple defensive miscues early in the contest put her team in a deep hole for the rest of the day.
“I think we came out a little bit slow, defensively, and we just dug ourselves a hole that we just couldn’t manage to get out of with our bats,” she said. “You can’t give away free bases. You can’t give away free runs. You’ve got to do the little things right, and when you have the opportunity, you’ve got to hit good pitches.”
The Tigerettes took advantage of multiple Franklin County errors in the bottom of the first to score four runs in the frame.
The Rebelettes got on the board in the bottom of the second as Kaitlyn Montgomery hit an RBI double to drive in Addilyn Carter from second base, but the Tigerettes then scored three more runs in the bottom of the second to put the overall score at 7-1.
The teams scored one run each in the third inning as an RBI single from Franklin County’s Leah Hardison was responded to with a run-scoring single from the Tigerettes to make it an 8-2 game.
The Tigerettes went on to score two more runs in the fourth inning and one run in the fifth to push the deficit up to 11-2 late.
The Rebelettes scored one more run in the top of the seventh off of an RBI groundout from Carter before the last out of the game was recorded to seal their eight-run loss.
Bella Smith pitched the first four innings for the Rebelettes with five strikeouts, eight hits, four walks, five earned runs and five unearned runs allowed for the day.
Dalayna Marshall pitched two innings in relief with one strikeout, two hits and one run allowed.
With the loss, the Rebelettes moved to 9-10 on the season and 3-2 in district play.
They will next play Friday in a pair of games for the Ooltewah Invitational at the Summit of Softball Complex. They are scheduled to play Knoxville Central High School at 11:40 a.m. EDT and Ooltewah High School at 3 p.m. EDT.
