FC boys soccer records two home victories
The Franklin County High School boys soccer team beat the Knowledge Academies Tigers 10-1 at home on April 9 for the team’s sixth win of the season.
Franklin County scored early and often as the team recorded a blowout victory to extend its winning streak to four games.
Franklin County’s first goal came about three minutes into the contest as Gezer Hernandez scored after receiving a pass from Jonathan Bustamante to make it a 1-0 game.
The early lead doubled about five minutes later as Grant Parkerson received a crossing pass from Hernandez and fired a shot into the net.
The Tigers were able to fight back a little bit and scored with about 15 minutes remaining in the first half to cut the deficit down to 2-1.
However, Franklin County got that goal back a few minutes later as Hernandez headed the ball into the net off of an assist from Nathaniel Dickson. It was the second goal of the day and the fifth of the season for Hernandez.
The next goal came with about seven minutes remaining in the first half as Ian Tyson scored after receiving a pass from Giovanni Mendez to push the deficit up to 4-1.
Franklin County struck for another goal about four minutes later as a shot from Tyson deflected off the crossbar and was rebounded by Edber Perez before he scored off of a header. It was the eighth goal of the season for Perez.
Tyson scored another goal shortly afterward to boost the lead up to 6-1 as the first half came to an end.
Franklin County maintained its scoring pace in the second half as Parkerson headed the ball into the net off of an assist from Sergio Vallecillo about five minutes into the period, and Parkerson scored again a few minutes later after receiving a pass from Dickson to complete a hat trick and make it an 8-1 game.
Weber Bradford added to the lead with about 20 minutes left on the game clock as he scored after receiving a corner kick from Vallecillo for his second goal of the year.
Franklin County brought an early end to the game about four minutes later as Tyson fired a shot into the net to trigger the mercy rule and secure a nine-goal victory. The goal also gave Tyson a hat trick for the contest.
With the win, Franklin County improved to 6-4 on the season.
Franklin County 4, Lincoln County 1
The FCHS boys soccer team beat the Lincoln County Falcons 4-1 at home on April 7 for the team’s fifth win of the season.
Franklin County scored two goals in each half of the district contest to steadily pull away as the team recorded its third straight victory.
Franklin County head soccer coach Kent Bean said that he was happy with his team’s performance in their first game since returning from spring break.
“It feels good to get back after break and come out, play well tonight and get a win. We had some really nice goals,” he said before later referring to some lineup adjustments his team had to make. “We’re missing a few guys that play a lot of minutes for us, so we had some guys step up and play more than they’re used to and in some different spots. We’re proud of those guys for stepping in and doing that and just the whole team, in general, for not really missing a beat.”
Franklin County took the lead with 12:40 remaining in the first half as Giovanni Mendez delivered a line-drive free kick which skipped past the opposing goalkeeper and into the net to make it a 1-0 game.
The early lead doubled just 90 seconds later as Perez received a pass in the goal box from Hernandez, fired a shot which bounced off the left goalpost and gathered his own rebound before tapping the ball into the net. It was the seventh goal of the season for Perez.
Franklin County led 2-0 at halftime.
Franklin County’s lead expanded again about four minutes into the second half as Giovanni Mendez scored on a shot from the top of the goal box after receiving a pass from Henry Gomez to make it a 3-0 game.
The Falcons got on the board with 13:50 remaining in the contest as one of their forwards slipped by Franklin County’s defense and scored to cut the deficit down to 3-1.
However, Franklin County scored again with about 7:25 remaining as a free kick from Giovanni Mendez hit the inside of the right goalpost and rolled across the goal line to give him a hat trick for the day. It was the third goal of the game and the fifth of the season for Giovanni Mendez.
Franklin County didn’t allow any more goals in the final minutes of the contest as the team won by three.
With the win, Franklin County improved to 5-4 on the season and 3-1 in district play.
The boys soccer team next played Tuesday at Tullahoma High School in a game which came after the
Herald Chronicle’s press deadline.
