Walker, Johnson take part in Great Eight meet

Franklin County High School tracksters Brandon Walker and Monte Johnson competed in the Great Eight Invitational on April 23 at Ensworth High School.

The Great Eight Invitational is held annually to allow the top athletes in Middle Tennessee to go head-to-head with only the best eight performances among the submitted entries being accepted for competition in each event.

Walker, a senior, competed in the boys high jump and finished second overall for the day with a top height of 6 feet, 6 inches.

Central Magnet’s Chukwudi Obi also finished with a top height of 6 feet, 6 inches, but Walker had one more fault than Obi during the competition, which gave the latter an edge in the final standings.

Johnson, a junior, competed in the boys triple jump and placed seventh for the meet with a distance of 41 feet, 7 inches. Nolensville’s Brandon Brooks took first place for the event with a distance of 48 feet, 4 inches.
