Rebels swept by Tullahoma, Shelbyville

The Franklin County Rebels lost to the Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles 10-2 at home Friday for their 16th loss of the season.
The Rebels faced a sizable deficit for most of the contest as they closed out the regular season with a sixth straight loss.
Franklin County head baseball coach Mike Crossland said that his team needs to move on from Friday’s loss quickly with the postseason set to start in less than a week, and he placed emphasis on his players needing to re-establish an aggressive playstyle.
“I talked to the team last night about us just attacking in all four phases of the game, outfield defense, infield defense, attacking from the mound and attacking at the plate offensively. When this team does that, we’ve got the capability of beating anybody,” he said. “We’ve got to flip that switch, flip the script and get back to playing Franklin County baseball.”
The Golden Eagles scored three runs in the top of the first to quickly put the Rebels in a decent hole.
The Rebels were able to get one of those runs back in the bottom of the first as Ayden Hodosi came through with a two-out RBI single to make it a 3-1 game.
However, the Golden Eagles put together a fiverun frame in the top of the third, and they scored two more runs in the top of the fifth to push the deficit up to 10-1.
Taylor Austin and Braden Jackson drew walks for Franklin County in the bottom of the sixth before Gavin McBee recorded a two-out RBI single to put the overall score at 10-2 late.
The Rebels loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the seventh as Hodosi reached base on a fielder’s choice, Austin drew a walk and Connor Parker singled, but a flyout then ended the contest as the Rebels lost by eight.

With the loss, the Rebels moved to 15-16 on the season.

After taking an early lead, the Rebels fell behind in the middle innings of the contest and weren’t able to regain their footing as they opened the week with a district loss.
Crossland said that his team ran into a familiar issue of not being able to execute offensively to expand on their early advantage.
“Just not being able to produce any offense, it bit us again. (Tullahoma) took advantage of some walks, some misplayed balls in the outfield, and they made us pay for it,” he said before referring to the upcoming postseason. “That team’s got our number right now, and until we get over the hump and find a way to beat them, it’s going to be a long district tournament because we’re going to open up with that same team right there.”
The Rebels jumped ahead in the top of the first as Avery Jackson recorded an RBI single and Parker drew a bases-loaded walk to make it a 2-0 game.
With two outs and nobody on in the bottom of the fourth, the Wildcats had six consecutive batters reach base with five of them being brought around to score to suddenly put Franklin County behind by a 5-2 margin.
The Wildcats scored one run each in the fifth and sixth innings to push the deficit up to 7-2 late.
A single from Avery Jackson and a walk drawn by Hodosi gave the Rebels a few baserunners in the top of the seventh with a single from Parker then driving in Avery Jackson from third base to cut the lead down to 7-3.
However, the Rebels weren’t able to push any more runs across in the frame as they lost by four.
Kelley pitched the first 3 2-3 innings for the Rebels with two strikeouts, four hits, four walks and five runs allowed for the day.
