Trojans drop home contest to Harris

The South Middle School Trojans lost to the Harris Eagles 56-27 at home Monday for their fourth loss of the season.

The Trojans fell behind by double digits before scoring their first points of the day, and the Eagles fully pulled away in the second half to bring their record for the season back below .500.

The Eagles scored the first 16 points of the game to immediately create a sizable distance between the teams on the scoreboard. William Money scored four of South’s six points in the first quarter.

South trailed 22-6 after one quarter.

The Trojans scored the first eight points of the second quarter to cut the early deficit in half, but the Eagles regained their double-digit advantage before the period ended. Kaveon Sutton scored six of South’s 10 points in the second quarter.

South trailed 29-16 at halftime.

The Eagles started the second half with 11 straight points to push the lead past 20 points for the first time in the contest.

A 3-pointer from Sutton at the buzzer made it a 40-21 game going into the final period.

The Trojans weren’t able to make up any ground in the fourth quarter as they lost by a final margin of 29 points.

Sutton led the Trojans with nine points for the game, followed by Money with eight points and Odeviyon Poe with six.

Levi Lindsey and Cameron Denton scored two points each.

With the loss, the Trojans moved to 3-4 on the season.

They will next play Thursday at West Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
