WCA students receive taekwondo black belts

Winchester Christian Academy’s taekwondo program recently had its first four students receive their black belts.

WCA students Hailee Jett, Abbey McClain, Jayden Hannel and Bryson Johnson achieved the high mark in the martial art under the tutelage of Master Bunny Hawkersmith.

WCA’s taekwondo program starts in the sixth grade and was recently expanded to include the ninth grade, which allowed enough time to complete the required class hours for a black belt, according to a press release on the program.

“We are so proud of these students and their accomplishments,” the press release said. “The taekwondo program is a very structured and organized class that teaches the students discipline, good manners, morals and life skills that go far beyond the physical aspects of self-defense.”

The press release continued by saying that the program teaches students how to remain focused while building their confidence and self-esteem.
