Rebels hold off Cascade for home victory

The Franklin County Rebels beat the Cascade Champions 61-55 at home Tuesday for their 12th win of the season.

The Rebels led by as many as 13 points in the fourth quarter and held off a late offensive push by the Champions to secure their fifth straight victory.

The score was tight throughout the opening period with a layup by Ke’Andre Johnson giving the Rebels a slight lead in the last second of the quarter.

They led 15-13 after one quarter.

The Champions began the second quarter with a 12-5 to flip the scoreboard in their favor, but the Rebels continued to keep the score close. Kenyon Fuqua scored six of Franklin County’s 10 points in the second quarter.

Franklin County trailed 28-25 at halftime.

There were four ties in the third quarter before the Rebels pulled back ahead late in the period with a brief 7-2 run.

They led 45-40 going into the final period.

The Rebels started the fourth quarter with a 12-4 run to boost their lead up to double digits, and they remained ahead by two possessions or more for the rest of the game as they won by six.

Kai Baker led the Rebels with 19 points for the game, followed by Johnson with 12 points and Fuqua with 11.

Kaleb Rigsby scored 10 points, Ethan Stephens scored seven and Sam Vincent scored two.

With the win, the Rebels improved to 12-13 on the season.

They will next play Friday at Fayetteville City High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
