FC boys drop semifinal contest at Shelbyville

The Franklin County High School boys soccer team lost to the Shelbyville Golden Eagles 4-0 on the road on May 5 in a semifinal game for the District 9AAA tournament.

Franklin County kept the score close against the top-seeded Golden Eagles for most of the contest, but Shelbyville pulled away late to eliminate Franklin County from the bracket.

Franklin County created some scoring opportunities in the first half but wasn’t able to capitalize, and the Golden Eagles scored about 20 minutes into the contest to take an early lead.

Franklin County trailed 1-0 at halftime.

The Golden Eagles scored again midway through the second half to double the deficit up to 2-0.

With time winding down, Franklin County attempted to gain some offensive momentum by pushing defenders up the field, but the Golden Eagles continued to hold them off the board.

The Golden Eagles scored two more goals in the last five minutes of the contest to set the final deficit at 4-0.

With the loss, Franklin County ended the season with a record of 10-8-1.
