The Franklin County Rebelettes lost to the Lincoln County Lady Falcons 16-0 at home Thursday for their fourth loss of the season.
The Rebelettes were held to two total hits in the contest while the Lady Falcons scored early and often to give them a loss.
Franklin County head softball coach Kelly Kennedy said her team got off to a poor start in the contest and lacked energy.
“I think we came out pretty flat against Lincoln County. That’s a really good ball team, and you can’t come out flat against a team that’s really good and that’s going to hit the ball like that,” she said. “You’ve got to be energetic, you’ve got to be having good at-bats when it’s our turn to hit, and we’ve got to make defensive plays.”
The Lady Falcons got on the board in the top of the first with a two-out, two-run home run to left field to put the Rebelettes in an early hole.
After a scoreless second inning, the Lady Falcons collected 10 hits and nine runs in the top of the third to bring the deficit up to 11-0.
The Rebelettes got their first hit of the day in the bottom of the third on a single by Natalie Hagood with Hagood advancing to second after Kaylee Morris got hit by a pitch.
However, she wouldn’t be able to advance any further as the Rebelettes remained scoreless.
The Lady Falcons tacked on another five runs in the top of the fourth with their last two runs coming on another home run to make it a 16-run game.
The Rebelettes got one more baserunner when Madi Taylor reached first base on an infield single, but they weren’t able to break through for a run as they lost by 16.
With the loss, the Rebelettes moved to 1-4 on the season.
Cascade 18, Rebelettes 3
The Rebelettes lost to the Cascade Lady Champions 18-3 on the road Tuesday for their third loss of the season.
The Lady Champions scored at least one run in every frame with a 13-run third inning allowing them to fully pull away before ending the game after four innings.
The Lady Champions got their scoring started with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first.
The Rebelettes got their first run of the day in the top of the second when Taylor walked, stole second, moved to third on an Emma Owens single and came in to score on a throwing error while Owens stole second.
However, the Lady Champions scored another two runs in the bottom half of the second to pull ahead by three runs early in the contest.
The Rebelettes chipped the deficit back down to a single run in the top of the third after Taylor hit a two-run single, but the aforementioned 13-run inning in the bottom of the third by the Lady Champions put them in a 17-3 hole.
The Lady Champions scored one more run in the bottom of the fourth to trigger the mercy rule as the Rebelettes lost by 15.
With the loss, the Rebelettes moved to 1-3 on the season.
They will next play Friday in a pair of games for the Southern Warrior Classic in Murfreesboro. Their first game is scheduled for noon against Bryant High School at the StarPlex, and they will also play at 6 p.m. against Mt. Juliet High School at McKnight Park.
