Gators fall to Bridgeforth in homecoming contest

The North Middle School Gators lost to the Bridgeforth Bobcats 42-0 at home Tuesday for their third loss of the season.

The Bobcats scored at least one touchdown in every quarter while the Gators were held scoreless for the day in their homecoming contest.

A blocked North punt early in the first quarter set up the Bobcats with good field position and they scored a few plays later to make it a 6-0 midway through the first quarter.

The Gators turned the ball over on downs as the first quarter came to an end with the Bobcats breaking off a long touchdown run a couple plays into the second quarter to grow the early deficit to 14-0.

The Bobcats forced a fumble at midfield to get the ball back, and the ensuing drive ended in a touchdown pass to make it a three-score game with 4:29 left in the first half.

The last touchdown of the first half would be scored by Bridgeforth’s special-teams unit as the Bobcats’ punt returner ran back a North kick for a score.

The Gators trailed 30-0 at halftime.

The Bobcats continued to pull away in the second half as they broke off a long touchdown run with five minutes left in the third quarter to make it a 36-0 game.

A North interception was returned for an apparent touchdown later in the third quarter, but the ball was called back due to a penalty with the turnover being upheld.

However, the turnover would still lead to another Bridgeforth touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter to push the deficit up to more than 40 points.

The Gators weren’t able to put up any points in the final period as they lost by 42.

With the loss, the Gators moved to 0-3 on the season.

They will next play Tuesday at home against Coffee County Middle School. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
