Middle school Lady Hornets rout St. Andrew’s-Sewanee at home

The Huntland Middle School Lady Hornets beat the St. Andrew’s-Sewanee Lady Mountain Lions 6-0 at home Wednesday for their third win of the season.

The Lady Hornets pulled away early and got their third shutout of the season as they brought their record for the year above .500.

Loralie Mason was the first Huntland player on the board as she scored about 10 minutes into the game on a shot from just outside the goal box.

A shot from Kerrigan Hall shortly afterward was deflected by the opposing goalkeeper and found the feet of Naomi Morris, and Morris put the shot back into the net to grow the early lead to 2-0.

The Lady Hornets went right back on the attack with Morris quickly scoring again for her second goal of the day and of the season.

Abbey Mason provided the final goal of the first half for the Lady Hornets as she broke away from the defense and hit a shot from outside the goal box for her sixth score of the campaign.

The Lady Hornets led 4-0 at halftime.

Kylar Keith got the scoring started in the second half as she found the net about five minutes into the period for her second goal of the season.

Loralie Mason recorded the final goal of the day for the Lady Hornets as she hit another shot from just outside the goal box for her second goal of the day and her fifth of the year.

Huntland Middle head soccer coach Shaun Mason praised the play of goalkeeper Addyson Locke in keeping the shutout intact as the Lady Hornets won by six.

With the win, the Lady Hornets improved to 3-2-1 on the season.

They will next play Monday at The Webb School. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
