Rebelettes rally past Shelbyville in five sets

The Franklin County Rebelettes beat the Shelbyville Central Golden Eaglettes in five sets on the road Tuesday for their fifth win of the season.

The Rebelettes came back from a 2-1 deficit to win the fourth and fifth sets and record a close victory in district play.

The teams traded the lead a few times early in the opening set before a run of five straight points by the Golden Eaglettes gave them a 16-11 advantage.

The Rebelettes weren’t able to make up ground the rest of the way as they lost the frame by a score of 25-20 to fall behind early in the match.

The Rebelettes led for the entire second set as they slowly built on their advantage and won the frame by a score of 25-17 to tie the overall score at 1-1.

The Golden Eaglettes scored eight straight points midway through the third set to take a 17-7 lead, and the Rebelettes weren’t able to make up ground the rest of the way as they lost the middle frame by a 25-15 margin.

The fourth set would be the most lopsided of the day as the Rebelettes scored the first eight points of the frame and never looked back.

They went on to win the set by a score of 25-9 to tie the match at 2-2 and force a decisive fifth set.

A run of six straight points early in the fifth set gave the Rebelettes a 7-1 lead, and they carried a 12-9 advantage late in the first-to-15 frame.

The Rebelettes closed out the match by scoring three straight points to claim a 15-9 set victory.

With the win, the Rebelettes improved to 5-14 on the season and 3-8 in district play.

They will next play Wednesday at Grundy County High School. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
