Gators falter in second half versus Warren County

The North Middle School Gators lost to the Warren County Pioneers 50-28 at home Thursday for their sixth loss of the season.

A run of 21 straight points by the Pioneers in the third quarter proved to be the deciding factor after a relatively close first half as the Gators lost their fourth straight game.

The Pioneers ended the opening period on a 9-2 run to create some early separation between them and the Gators.

North trailed 13-4 after one quarter.

A 14-4 run by the Gators in the second quarter cut the deficit down to three points in the last two minutes of the first half, but the Pioneers pulled back ahead by multiple possessions before the halftime break.

North trailed 25-18 at halftime.

After Colson Kelley hit a layup to make it a five-point game early in the third quarter, the Pioneers proceeded to score the next 21 points to take complete control of the contest.

North trailed 46-22 going into the final period.

The Gators were only able to make up a small amount of ground in the fourth quarter as they went on to lose by 22. Connor Parker scored six of North’s 10 points in the second half.

Parker led the Gators with 12 points for the game, followed by Grant Parkerson with five points and Kelley and Mason Isbell with four points each.

Da’Zavion Taylor scored three points.

With the loss, the Gators moved to 1-6 on the season.

They will next play on Nov. 30 at home against East Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
