Rebels fall to Grundy County in home matchup

The Franklin County Rebels lost to the Grundy County Yellowjackets 65-54 at home Monday for their second loss of the season.
After trading the lead a few times in the opening period, the Rebels trailed for the rest of the day with an attempted rally in the fourth quarter running out of steam in the final minutes.
The Rebels led for a large portion of the first quarter, but the Yellowjackets ended the period on an 8-0 run to pull ahead early.
Franklin County trailed 18-12 after one quarter.
The teams matched each other point-for-point in the second quarter with the Rebels trailing by a score of 33-27 at halftime. Kai Baker scored eight of Franklin County’s 15 points in the second quarter.
The deficit remained steady in the third quarter with the Yellowjackets taking a double-digit lead into the final period.
Franklin County trailed 46-36 after three quarters.
The Rebels started the fourth quarter with a 12-5 run, fueled by a full-court press on defense, to make it a three-point game with about four minutes to go.
However, the Yellowjackets scored the next six points to pull back ahead by a decent amount, and the Rebels weren’t able to make another offensive push as they lost by 11.
Baker led the Rebels with 18 points for the game, followed by Kenyon Fuqua with 16 points and Brandon Walker with six.
Aydin Horton and Brayden Arnold scored five points each, and Jacob Sanchez and Thomas Clark scored two points each.
With the loss, the Rebels moved to 0-2 on the season.
They will next play Wednesday against Knowledge Academy at LEAD Academy in a game for the Mike Mitchell Classic. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
