Lady Trojans hold off Lady Hornets in cross-county matchup

The South Lady Trojans beat the Huntland Middle Lady Hornets 47-42 at South Middle School Tuesday in a midseason matchup for the two county teams.

The Lady Trojans built up a small lead in the first half and maintained it throughout the rest of the game to defeat the Lady Hornets in a close game.

The Lady Trojans held an early advantage in the contest as they were able to create a 13-9 lead by the end of the opening period.

The Lady Trojans added a few more points to their lead in the second quarter, but the Lady Hornets remained just two possessions behind. Abbey Mason scored eight of Huntland’s 11 points in the second quarter.

South led 26-20 at halftime.

The Lady Hornets continued to keep pace with the Lady Trojans in the third quarter as they were able to cut one point off of the deficit.

South led 37-32 going into the final period.

The Lady Trojans were able to hold onto their lead throughout the fourth quarter as they picked up the victory by five points. Catara Johnson scored 18 of Huntland’s 22 points in the second half.

Victoria Latham led the Lady Trojans with 12 points for the game, followed by Zoe Cole with 11 points and Addilyn Carter and Kamille Morris with six points each.

Chloe Cole scored five points, Addyson Hill scored three, and Lana Fuqua and Khylee Speich scored two points each.

The Lady Hornets were led in scoring by Johnson with 25 points, followed by Abbey Mason with 14 points and Addie Jackson with three.

With the win, the Lady Trojans improved to 3-6 on the season.

They will next play on Nov. 30 at home against Warren County Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.

With the loss, the Lady Hornets moved to 4-7 on the season.

They will next play Monday at Blanche Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
